Our #4: Pig
Our #4: Pig

Our #4: Pig

01 June 2014

Welcome back to The Next Big 5. "Tales about everyday animals."

There are billions of everyday animals. But most of us haven’t seen all of them in real live yet: the everyday sheep, cows, chickens, pigs and salmon.

They aren’t the Big 5. Nor are they the European Big 5. I believe they are The Next Big 5. They should be for sure. This project is all about tales of everyday animals. Animals we never see but live among us, in numbers we even can’t imagine.

This is a showcase of heroes, The Next Big 5 heroes. And alongside them, many other animals that match them.

Our number four animal = pigs. Although it is not common knowledge, pigs are highly intelligent creatures. They are affectionate, protective of their young, playful, social animals and they suffer greatly from the factory farming system. Mother pigs and their young piglets are treated mercilessly on most farms, and it’s been a long time since we’ve seen these animals outdoor.

You can participate in this tale. Send us your stories, post them to facebook or tweet to us. We’re happy to share them.

It’s important to note that we don’t criticize the attention for nor the protection of the well know Big 5 (lions, African elephants, Cape buffaloes, leopards and rhinoceros). That would be absurd, because even the animals we know as the heroes of nature are under enormous threat. We respect them as much as we respect The Next Big 5.
